e vicário geral disse que por o caso pedir maior averiguação se congregara o ca-
bido no dia seguinte pela manhã tres deste mes, e nele se assentirão que para se investi-
gar com toda a circunspenção este prodigio, se ordenara a ele dito cônego fosse ao dito
convento, e mandava desenterrar o corpo e fazer nele segunda vistoria e exame
por médicos, e cirurgiõis com assistência de pessoas religiosas doctas e pias para cujo
efecto avisara logo a madre prioresa que de esse ordem a se tirar o corpo da sepul-
tura como se tirou das sete para as oito horas da manhã, estando nela trece horas
e mandou quando a algúns dos prelados e religiosos do que estavão presentes, e ao
físico maior e cirugiõis em presença de todos vistoria e exame vendo os ditos sinais
e acharão que os dois das palmas das mãos erão como calos com igual proporção
sendo a da mão direita alguma cousa maior na circunferência e a cor distinta das
mais partes das mãos os quais não panavão das palmas as costas delas, e o tacto
naquele lugar duro a [¿aipero?] e nas mais partes brando e mandando vir sabão,
sal, e vinagre, esfregarão e lavarão com estes ingredientes os ditos sinais por
repitidas vezes com panos molhados e os alimparão com outros enxutos e sempre
ficarão na mesma forma e cor que dantes tinhão e esta mesma experiência fizerão
nos outros dois sinais dos peitos dos pés que erão mais compridos que esféricos com dureza
que se não achava nas mais partes dos pés os quais não passavão as solas deles e logo
descobrindo o lado direito do dito corpo se vio nele um sinal comprido e estreito a modo
de lançada de cor roja algum tanto apagada em que houve variedade de pareceres dos cir-
cunstantes, porque uns afirmavão que vião o dito sinal na forma referida e outros
que so vião como dous fios da seda vermelha um por baixo de outro que mal divisavão-
dose a mesma experiência de sabão, sal, e vinagre quanto mais se esfregava tan-
to mais evidente se via e palpandose o corpo se achou que estando morto havia vin-
te e quatro horas estava brando e flexível movendose as juntas para todas as partes para on-
de as querião mover como qualquer corpo vivo e o estômago brando e mole sem tremor al-
gum, nem outros efeitos algúns que se costumavão experimentar nos corpos defuntos, e man-
dando o cabido por um capitular dar conta deste prodigio ao senhor vice-rei mandou dizer que
se queria achar presente a averiguação dele e para este efeito se dio ordem para que as
duas horas da tarde se achassem no dito convento o cabido, inquisidores, prelados das re-
ligiõis, e fidalgos, e o físico, e liturgiõis, e todos acudarão ao dito convento e são os mesmos
que já ficão nomeados e tendo o senhor vice-rei, e todas as mais pessoas que estavão presentes

And upon discovering the right side of the said corpse a long and narrow mark, in the form of a spear wound of somewhat dull red color, in which there was a variety of opinion among those around, because some affirmed that they saw the said sign in the aforementioned shape and others only saw something like two threads of red silk, one beneath the other. As it was hard to spot from the said experiment of soap, salt, and vinegar, the more they rubbed, the more evident it appeared, and when touching the body, it was found that having been dead for twenty-four hours it was soft and flexible, the joints were moving to whichever direction they wanted to move them, like any other living body, and the stomach was soft and tender without any trembling, nor any other effects that usually occured in dead bodies. And the councillor ordered a capitular to recount this prodigy to the viceroy, and told he wanted to be present at the inquiry of the prodigy and for this to happen the order was given that at two o’clock in the afternoon in the said convent be present the councillor, inquisitors, prelates, fidalgos, the physician, liturgicals, and all came to the said convent and they were the ones that were already appointed.
