description
Libmanan ( or alternative spellings Libgñanan or Ligmanan) is a municipality located in the province of Camarines Sur, in the Bicol region of the Philippines. It is situated to the southwest of Naga City, which is the provincial capital. Libmanan is known for its agricultural activities, particularly rice and coconut production, and has a rich history, with its name believed to be derived from the term "libman," meaning "a place to cross" in the local dialect, referring to a river crossing in the area. Franciscan Missionaries came in the year 1580. In 1730, Fray Pasqual dela Cruz called the place Libgñanan which was how Spaniards pronounced the Piglabanan. Others would tell that the town was called Ligmanan because of the vast waters of the Bicol River that surrounds it. Another version of the origin of the name would be from Libangan which was because of the superb rice fields that attracted farmers from other places who would come for work and would not go back to where they came from because they were amused of the place.
