Fray Tomás Ortiz writes with little hope that his letter will arrive, as it has been a few days since he wrote it. Since becoming the vicar provincial, he has spent much of his time outside his residence, particularly in Guichiu, dealing with legal challenges concerning a house purchase. Although there were attempts to remove him from the house, he successfully retained it. Father Barruelo is preparing to possibly become the bishop of that city and province in September. Ortiz is serving the bishop, traveling to assess the state of properties in Kiangsi and determine who might manage the new acquisition. He wishes well to his superior and notes receiving several volumes from Barcia without clear knowledge of how they were delivered, though he suspects it was through his superior, to whom he expresses gratitude. This text is in the volume with the title "PERTENECE AL/Aparador fuera de la Pared/Cajón/Númber 4/ITALONES Y CHINA/Legajos 1. /2./ 3./ 4./ 5. The volume was compiled by Pedro Orense.

Padre nuestro

Escribo está después de dos o tres [días] con poca esperanza de que
llegué y mucha de que se pierda, en que se perderá bien poco. Después
que soy vicario provincial he estado muy poco en casa y mucho fuera. Y lo
más del tiempo en la ciudad de [Guichiu] adonde he estado pleiteando sobre
que me querían impedir de comprar una casa. Y después que la compré
me querían echar de ella mas no lo pudieron conseguir y así me quedé con la
casa y en paz. Y ahora se está disponiendo el Padre Barruelo para ir
este mes de septiembre ~~a lo más~~ por obispo de aquella ciudad y aun de aquella
provincia. El señor obispo se halla en esta iglesia camino de []
[Nan hiceng] a quién iré sirviendo hasta allá, adonde voy para
ver el estado de aquellas casas y ver quién ha de quedar ~~Mrn~~ por ministro
de la casa o iglesia que nuevamente hemos comprado en la ~~ciud~~ provincia de
Kiangsi. Dicho señor obispo aún queda guardián de [Nangon.] Y yo
deseoso de servir a vuestra reverencia a quién guarde Dios muchos años como deseo Xa
[Xao King fu] y agosto 22 de 1702.

Los 30 pesos que vinieron para el padre [Recoleto] y los 25 que vinieron para
el señor de Ascalon de que escribí no habían llegado. Lo escribí entonces ~~y lo que~~
del Padre [Señor ]Rubio y los entregué etcétera. Tengo recibidos tres tomos juntamente de
Barcia, mas no sé por qué mano vienen. Ni de ello hay más noticia que decir en el
aforro son de nuestro uso, mas no obstante creo que vendrán por mano de vuestra reverencia
y así le doy repetidas gracias etcétera.
