Lopez was a missionary of the Order of St. Augustine. He published the 'Doctrina Christiana' of Cardinal Bellarmino into Iloca: Libro anaisuratan amin ti bagas ti Dotrina Cristiana,...Impreso en el Convento de S. Pablo de Manila. Por Antonio Damba, i Miguel Saixo, 1621 ;Lopez had a related work published in 1627 [first edition 1620?]: 'Arte de la lengua iloca...En Manila, en el Colegio i Universidad de S. Thomas de Aquino, por Thomas Pinpin, 1627.' ;A related work of similar title exists in a printed edition of 1849 and in 2 MS copies in the Colegio de Filipinos, Valladolid: 'Vocabulario de la lengua Ilocana, trabajado por varios religiosos del orden de N.P.S. Agustin, coordinado por el M.R.P. Predicador Fr. Andres Carro, y ultimamanente anadido, y puesto en mejor orden alfabetico por dos religioses del mismo orden, primero edicion, Manila, 1849.' ;The Prologo of the 'Vocabulario de la lengua Ilocana', 1849 and the MSS all give the following information (translated by W.H. Scott in correspondence with KCL): 'Francisco Lopez, ... applied himself diligently to making his Vocabulary of Romance into Iloco, after having printed his Bellarmino and his Grammar; but due to an early death... he was unable to print it or to make the Vocabulary he intended of Ilocano into Castilian. This latter, completed by...Fr. Jubilado Fray Jose Carbonel and circulated under the name Thesaurus, was emended and enlarged by Fr. Fray Miguel Albiol, minister of the town of Batac, of which we have many copies in this Ilocano province; but none of them printed, and all full of errors.... the Superiors ... decided to give priority to collecting a common Vocabulary, ... which could, by means of the press, be kept of such errors...'.
