Traslado sobre la prosecución, resurso de fuerzas, y conclusión de los autos sobre la administración de los Santos Sacramentos de los pueblos de Mariquina, Jesús de la Peña, Sabat, Maybonga y otros. 1688

This is the transfer of legal proceedings regarding the administration of sacraments in the communities of Marikina, Jesús de la Peña, and others. Fray Simón Martínez, the procurator general of the Order of St. Augustine, requests documentation from the court related to a dispute with the Jesuit priests over the value and administration of sacraments in areas under the jurisdiction of Pasig. He seeks the necessary transfers to defend the rights of his province in light of prior royal provisions favoring the Jesuits. The proceedings involve multiple petitions and responses, including a request from Fray Antonio de Borja of the Jesuit Order, who argues against the decisions made by the archbishop regarding the administration of these communities, claiming them to infringe upon the real patronage rights belonging to the king. Tensions escalate as both religious orders (the Jesuits and the Augustinians) assert their rights to the ministry in these areas. The archbishop's decisions are contested, and various legal actions, including appeals and challenges to jurisdiction, are noted, reflecting an ongoing conflict over religious authority and property rights within the context of colonial governance in the Philippines. This text is in the volume with the title "Pertenece al Aparador dentro de la Pared. Caxn No 4. Missiones. Leg 2." Historical papers and documents concerned with the Spanish Missions in the Philippines and East Asia, Vol. II, in the 17th century. Continuation of the previous volume. "Folio 1-480 Collection of documents, c. 1650-1733, on land owned by the Augustinians in Luzon, including title-deeds, grants, donations, transfers, litigation over the same, and demarcation of boundaries, etc. Comprises over 500 leaves, but the numeration is very erratic and there are gaps, duplication, etc. Original vellum binding, lettered on the cover: “Pertenece al Aparador fuera de la Pared. Caxⁿ N° 9. Papeles de Tagalos. Legajo 4 y 5.” This codex forms a most valuable source for the study of the Augustinian land-holdings, and their administration of the Filipinos on their lands, in the period 1650-1730."
