Reclaiming the Lost Archive of San Agustin Library

The writer states sixteen rules that were ordered by the "Catholic Kings" [sic] for the protections of the indigenous people. These rules are meant respond to the suffering encountered by the indigenous people due to the forced labor to which they are subjected. They are also meant to prevent uprooting them to other parts of the world, such as Spain or other parts of Southeast Asia from where they often are unable to return. This text is in the volume with the title "Varios Informes" / Collection of documents concerned chiefly with the welfare of the natives of the Philippine Islands in the seventeenth century. Comprises 117 leaves, exclusive of blanks; some of the leaves are regular folio size, some slightly shorter, and some quarto. Original vellum binding with the above title inscribed on the spine.
