Fray Tomás Ortiz escribe desde China, 1703

Fray Tomás Ortiz expresses hope that the letter arrives in Fray Francisco de Zamora's hands, who he hopes is in good health. He reports on limited but significant news: it is said that the French army destroyed Holland by releasing the dikes and also destroyed the imperial army without leaving any survivors. Additionally, it is noted that the Pope has sent the Patriarch of Antioch as a general visitor and nuncio to these missions. Fray Tomás hopes this won't bring trouble. Since the last correspondence after Lent, there have been ongoing issues with abandoned children. Many of the older ones have died, as have the newer ones, except for three he is raising at home and two he has given to others to raise. Father Barruelo in Guchiu is also caring for such children, currently raising two at home besides those who have died. Fray Tomás concludes by wishing for the recipient's well-being. The letter is dated October 20, 1703, from Xao Fu. This text is in the volume with the title "PERTENECE AL/Aparador fuera de la Pared/Cajón/Númber 4/ITALONES Y CHINA/Legajos 1. /2./ 3./ 4./ 5. The volume was compiled by Pedro Orense.
