- Description
- The captain of the ship delivered the silver but pressured Fray Tomás Ortiz and his companions to pay him one hundred and fifty pesos, which he claimed were either stolen from him or given to Mandarín officials to keep quiet about bringing them. After pleading, they convinced him to delay the payment until Manila, assuring him that the owed amount would be paid there. Fray Tomás mentioned that he would provide more detailed information in another letter regarding this situation and their journey. He also expressed hope for a blanket that Father Gómez had, which would be suitable for another father. Additionally, it was noted that mass would not be held at the Manila convent until November.. This text is in the volume with the title "PERTENECE AL/Aparador fuera de la Pared/Cajón/Númber 4/ITALONES Y CHINA/Legajos 1. /2./ 3./ 4./ 5. The volume was compiled by Pedro Orense.

Padre nuestro
El capitán del barco nos entregó la plata pero
nos apretaba a que le pagásemos ciento y cinquenta pesos
que dice le quitaron o que el dio a los ministros de los
Mandarín por callar el pecado de habernos traído, pero
con ruegos le vencimos a que nos lo dilatase hasta
Manila en donde le aseguramos a que sin falta se le
entregaría la plata que se le debía y así vuestra reverencia se sirva
de entregarle la parte que a nosotros nos toca. En
la otra carta, doy a vuestra reverencia noticia por más extenso asi
de esto como sucedió y de nuestro viaje y así a ella me
[remito.] Dios guarde vuestra reverencia muchos años. Chanchue y
agosto 24 de 1695 años. La manta espero porque el
Padre Gómez tiene una del sargento mayor y otra del padre
prior de Bulacan la cual servirá a otro padre.
