Fray Álvaro de Benavente, Procurator of the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus of the Philippines within the Augustinian order and a missionary in China, humbly informs Your Eminence that in 1684, by order of Monsignor Francisco Palu, Bishop of Heliopolis and Vicar in the Empire, Spanish missionaries from the orders of Santo Domingo, San Francisco, and San Agustín were notified of the decree from the Holy Congregation of Propaganda Fide issued on January 29, 1680. While they promptly obeyed the decree, they hesitated to take the oath specified in it without the advice and consent of their superiors.This text is in the volume with the title "PERTENECE AL/Aparador fuera de la Pared/Cajón/Númber 4/ITALONES Y CHINA/Legajos 1. /2./ 3./ 4./ 5. The volume was compiled by Pedro Orense.
