Carta de João Ferreira, desde Goa, a los agustinos de Macao prohibiéndoles que vayan a Filipinas

Frei João de Ferreira, the Prior Provincial of the Augustinians of the Eastern India Congregation, decrees that it is not appropriate for the friars of this congregation to travel to Manila. He orders that no friars, whether from their convent in Macau or visitors of any rank, should be compelled to travel to Manila under any pretext, with the penalty of major excommunication. Additionally, any previously granted permissions for such travel are now invalid. This decree is to be read to the community in the Macau convent. The decree was issued at the convent of Nossa Senhora da Graça in Goa on April 22, 1700. This text is in the volume with the title "PERTENECE AL/Aparador fuera de la Pared/Cajón/Númber 4/ITALONES Y CHINA/Legajos 1. /2./ 3./ 4./ 5. The volume was compiled by Pedro Orense.

Por razões justificadas que nos foram apresentadas, entendemos que não é conveniente que os religiosos desta congregação viajem para Manila. Por este documento, ordenamos que os nossos religiosos, tanto os conventuais do nosso convento em Macau quanto os visitantes de qualquer grau e preeminência, não sejam obrigados a ir para Manila sob qualquer pretexto ou disfarce de santa obediência, sob pena de excomunhão maior incorrida ipso facto.

Declaramos que, por este decreto, quaisquer licenças anteriormente concedidas aos nossos súditos para viajarem para Manila são invalidadas sem exceção. Para garantir que esta decisão chegue ao conhecimento de todos, instruímos o muito reverendo padre prior do convento de Macau a ler este decreto para a comunidade.

Dado neste convento de Nossa Senhora da Graça em Goa em 22 de abril de 1700, sob nosso sinal e selo maior de nosso ofício, etc.
